What is clicker training? Clicker training is a way of training animals in which desirable behavior is marked with a sound maker and then reinforced, making the behavior more likely to happen in the future. Who can use clicker training? People of all ages! What animals can be clicker trained? All animals, young or old. All species and breeds, small or large. Clicker training creates strong reliable behaviors, and is a great way of modifying behavior- solving shyness, reactivity and aggression. It is also a ethical way to bond with your companion animal as you train the animal to want to do what you want them to do, rather than physically or psychologically intimidating the animal to do what you want. Is it better or just cheaper?
On the TV show house he used clicker training to teach a kid. It was cute.
2:49 nanaaaaa i love her and kaiser as much as kiko splash and tug
!!!
Even after you muffles it so it bearly say anything.
What to do if the dog is afraid of the clicker when you try load it
i have a very important question. Clicker training promotes repetetion of desirable behaviors, right? how do you teach a dog against negative behaviors to the extreme like agression against human and other dogs? please enlighten me on this. BTW, very nice videos. you make it very easy for us to learn..
Clickers only cost a dollar or two at most pet stores. There is also a metal toy called a clicker–comes in different shapes. When I trained by dog at German Shepherd School (they train better around their own breed) we used string cheese. Another very useful treat is freeze dried liver. It comes in little chunks that are just right for little treats. To keep the dog’s attention at heel, we used string cheese in our mouths, then rewarded the dog with the cheese.
Boiled/Cooked chicken is fine and gentle on tummies. If my dogs have an upset tummy I give them boiled chicken and rice to help their stomachs recover. Cheese/hotdogs/anything else is ok in small amounts (for exceptionally good behaviour).
I love how spinning in a circle turned Vinnie into a border collie!
Ok the clicker is my last resort…my voice clearly doesn’t work anymore regardless of the treats. Getting very frustrated telling my puppy to do something & he ignores me or does it when he get ready..I read somewhere that if my voice isnt the same, the dog becomes confused lol so I guess that is the problem. One moment Im like “sit” in a stern voice, then I may sound like Im singing & my pup is like o.O. So a clicker will be much easier I guess or Im giving my pup away lolol
I am curious about rewarding my 13 week old puppy cheese/hotdogs/meat… is this really ok for them?
Hi! Thanks for this helpful video. By the way, I notice lots of people keep on talking about Xobodog Training (just google it), but I’m not sure if it is really good. Have you thought about this dog training program called Xobodog Training? I have heard many awesome things about it.
Where can u get clickers I would love to know
Be quicker… you probably waited too long between click and reward, thus she had the time to sit and started pairing the reward to that. It might take some time to “charge” the clicker (the process of making a dog know that a click is a marker to say s/he did something good) – try to click her for other basic behaviours like looking at you and feeding her the treat before she has time to sit. Be patient and you’ll see the results!
Start training in places with fewer distractions, and use play as a reinforcement the same way you would use food… Some dogs are just not interested in food but it’s not a bad thing, you just have to use something that s/he likes – if s/he likes playing that’s a great reward
The clicker is a marker. There are a number of scientific reasons why using a marker is better than using food alone. Read the great books “Don’t Shoot The Dog” and “Reaching the Animal Mind” by Karen Pryor to have more info. To sum it up(very roughly) the marker becomes reinforcing by it self when you pair it up with positive rewards (food or play or attention, whatever you choose)making “I did good” sensation stronger and it’s quicker, allowing you more precision in what you choose to reinforce
Puppy food not interested in the outdoors on training, seeking only to play, how to do?
when do i put in the cue word? i tried to make my dog lift her paws then click the clicker, give her the treat. then i tried: say ‘stand’, place the treat above her head to lure her up then click then give her the treat. she still dosent understand stand!
my dog thinks she needs to sit to get the treat. she dosent understand the clicker is to show she did something good and gets a treat. she thinks it means, ‘sit!’ what do i do?
where can you buy a clicker?
I know this is an old video but I have a question for anyone that might know… So when you start clicker training what is the eventual goal? To get your dog to respond without using food as their reward? How is this better than just using food with no clicker?
Never heard of clicker training. But this is a great method thanks a lot will give it a shot
Yes it does. Works real good with children as well.
Is there a place where you recommend an order of training a new puppy?
Yes.
But, typically, something else than a clicker is used to reinforce a specific behaviour. With our large brains and creative ways, we are animals that can figure out very complicated things to do and do them well but we also have a strong sense of worth and social context so the reward and setting has to be picked with care.
So, clicking a colleague when she offers a behaviour might not work well, but saying thank you or giving a hug or pet on the arm might. We do this all the time.
Hello there! Thanks for this useful video. By the way, I notice many people keep on talking about Xobodog Training (just google it), but I’m not sure if it is good. Have you thought about this dog training program known as Xobodog Training? I’ve heard some unbelivable things about it.
Thank you so much!
if only
Does this work with humans?
Guys DO NOT BUY A CLICKER, get a snapple cap and use that as a clicker.
CooL… I ordered a Clicker, but I couldn’t wait, so I use my tongue for now L0L… Seriously.
lol yup xD
LOL…im so sorry dude but he really sucked. hehehe
my brothers so stupid. i just bought a clicker and he clicked it like 10000 for no reason in front of my pets and they’re so used to it they don’t care now. waste of 5 bucks. brothers suck.
love your videos! thanks a lot! just one question… After you train the dog with the clicker training and you go out with him and after a while when you stop you say for example “stay”, will he be waiting for the sound and treat or not? its because its not easy to go out always with cliker and the treat… thanks
that´s so humiliating
Thanks so much for this video!!! You are great, very cute too which is just a plus
. Starting clicker training tomorrow, so excited thanks to all your videos! Just subscribed.
she has a video on that. check out her channel, its awesome for dog training stuff
Wonderful work. I need tips for walking without having my German Shepherds pull me around. Pls Help.
The i-click is great. No need to muffle and easy to use
Thanks for the tip on Muffing the clicker. I have two dogs and the one that attends classes, she is very timid so I am implementing this on the clikcer and I am going to try a cotton ball as a Muffing. Also, what strategies do you suggest for a an older dog, 8 yrs old, who is very timid and sometimes she does not even respond to snacks or the clicker? I currently cannot get her to sit unless I help her (By pressing down on her rump) to sit, go down or go to her mat?
I’ve been clicker training my dog for awhile now but I never muffled it, it’s not like the box kind you have though. I don’t think mine is as loud
The clicker is for all species young or old, right? Will this work on my fish to finish his food?
(I think it’s an English Bulldog, but I could very well be wrong)
im going buy a clicker right now to start training my puppy husky
thanks for the great videos
Actually, I’d modify that. If the dog knows the command and distraction before you remove the reward. Then you can reward your dog for doing the command under distraction. Once the dog can be around heavy distraction while doing the command, then remove the reward.
If the dog doesn’t listen, you’ve added too much distraction at once. Start with small distractions and work your way up once your dog succeeds. If the dog doesn’t succeed, take a step back to where they do. Removes the corrections!
No dog is too old for clicker training! I started becoming active in my dog’s training process when I was 10 and my dog was 5. She hadn’t had positive reinforcement used on her before. She did wonderfully with it. I didn’t get a clicker until 6 years later! My dog is almost 11 and she learned how to work with a clicker.
As for walking, play games to make your dog want to follow you. Try running away from the dog and try to get your dog to chase you and reward that. The dog will want to follow!
i wanna buy a clicker
This is such a good overview!
