Hunting dog training

I worked Hunter on some directional training. I then threw him a distraction during a retreive to make sure that he would respond to my whistle to ignore the distraction I threw during a retreive. I also threw him a few blinds.

Hey There! Thanks a lot for this useful video. By the way, I hear lots of people keep on talking about Xobodog Training (do a google search), but I’m not sure if it is really good. Have you considered this dog training program known as Xobodog Training? I have heard many great things about it.

the only negative thing i saw was the dropped bird….. but besides that hunter was doing a very good job. i can see him doing well out in a blind (unlike my uncles very loud lab). oh ya screw all the negative comments you got, its your dog and your life and its none of their business

Me and my girl are waiting for a litter right now and Im so pumped to get my lab and get to train like this! do you have any tips??? what are some of the challenges that you faced??? I can use any info right now im in the prep stage!!! Great looking dog and keep it up! Love the name too!!!!

dv8621 says:

all labs like water. it’s in their nature. you just have to introduce him correctly. he’ll do it. good luck

DrShakalu619 says:

too bad my labrador doesnt like water

jaxxson01 says:

the dog heels on the right because the owner is obviously left handed…

ezelong says:

I just finished “water dog” and am working on another retriever book. I’ll be training myself, and you are doing a great job. Standing in front and sending to the duck you want is a very clear signal to the dog, I’ll be doing some of the same. Great vid

kcin125 says:

listen buddy every one has there own techniques in training he has his own and obviously you have your own his must work for him

ttfnkmz says:

I’ll do that if you want to swim out there to retreive our ducks this year.

James Marple says:

Horrible job. Technique couldnt be more wrong. If I were you, I would shoot the dog and start from scratch with a new one. If your gonna do something then ya need to do it right. You should be ashamed of yourself.

bigshooter696969 says:

Going to the last dropped duck? I think your the fucking moron come on. That is not a true statement at all have you even trained a dog. Another question why does the dog have to heel to the right? It doesn’t matter just has to be the same side. I think this guy did a great job training this dog.

bigshooter696969 says:

Also it doesn’t matter what side the dog heels to as long as it’s the same side all of the time thats more important than left or right.

bigshooter696969 says:

Very very good job training this dog. Looks to me like he is 9 months or younger. The only thing I would do differently is to not train this long every time. Also you should pick up half of the dokkens yourself and teach the dog that retrieving is a reward and after watching this vid it’s probably been done he is a very patient dog and obviously well trained. I was impressed when you threw the distraction dokken out when he was just about at the original mark then a whistle to correct him.

ttfnkmz says:

Thanks man. I took him out on my first hunt and limited out on Teal in about 1.5 hrs. People were shooting all around us at The Great Salt Plains in Jet, OK. He did good, but didn’t focus as well as 1 on 1 training during his first hunt. I’ve taken him out about 20 times now this year and he is catching on quickly. While in the blind he’s watching the sky for birds now. I’m trying to get a video put together of me and friends duck hunting this season. Good luck to yourself

PistabachiCalifornia says:

Your doing a great job training Hunter, if your happy with how he is doing, and it works for you, then disregard thsome of these rude comments. If you would like some suggestions, Please let me know, I would be more then glad to point some things out. Otherwise, happy hunting.

PistabachiCalifornia says:

That is an awful pompeous attitude you have scofo35!If he shoots left handed then he is doing fine. This is not training for a trials dog,so any training that gets the dog to do what you want is good training. The pup looks happy. Next time you make a comment like like yours make sure it is in the proper context. If this were a trials dog, then you may have some validity. But for a man and his dog, who just want to hunt, then he is on the right track. by the way, I do Train Dogs.
