This is the second part of my tutorial on walking your dog on a loose leash. In addition to teaching your dog that staying next to you is rewarding, you can take some measures to ensure that your dog remains calm and relaxed as you walk them. Be sure to check out the first video for a full explanation of how to conquer the LOOSE LEASH walk. Make sure to subscribe to my channel, as I am regularly posting dog training videos every week. If you have any questions, or suggestions for future videos… leave them in the comments! Enjoy!

Great lessons! Thank you taking time to create them. I have a pit bull that become very excited, when on his walk. Now, thanks to your videos, I have learned several new techniques, so both of us can enjoy our walk together.

wow!! I at last – someone who teaches that calmness is key. I think your video is hugely valuble to all dog owners and carers – please , please keep up your videos. If others take some advice like this then their dogs will love them for it. Thank you!!

i wouldn’t suggest you teach your dog to act agressive like they are going to attack, they will think it’s a good thing. but my friend got her dog to learn to growl when she opened her hand from a fist, a discreet command.
she used to play “tug” and cought the dog in the act of growling and praising it. then she gradually got the dog to growl without the tug-play.

I have a 3 month old black lab/german shepherd mix and when I was talking him for a walk around the block all of a sudden he dropped to the ground (legs up). I didn’t know what to do, I only stood there and let him lay there for about a minute and then he stood up and we moved on. Is this just puppy play or something that needs to be corrected?

I am ready to try all your methods on him, they seem super “easy” to try and pretty clear.

Thanks

I live in Brooklyn, NY. The distractions are overwhelmingly exciting for my 5 month old Belgian Mal. It takes an hour just to walk part way to the park, and she needs to run off-leash. What can I do to train her on loose leash and make sure she gets the exercise she needs?

i swear your songs make me laugh

I do have a question though; I personally like having the leash as a “going out” symbol, partly because it makes it easy to have the dog let you know when it wants to/needs to go out. Our GSD is very well behaved with the leash and his way of telling us “bros, I need to go out, k?” is to sit down by it and point to it with the nose. Is this really that bad? Or does it just come with more to teach the dog? Leash only goes on when he’s calm.

Francisco Hernandez says:

Thank you for this information!

Roswitha1231 says:

Your dog is really relaxed – not easily achieved with a GSD. Great !

Getting a new Labrador puppy tomorrow. I will definitely use these techniques from the start. I wonder if they would work with our 2 1/2 yr old dog? She pulls so much until we let her off the lead that we don’t always take her with us when we go walking.

Thank you for the excellent video lessons & tips and for explaining positive reinforcement. It´s hard to unlearn the other way but your videos are helping and it´s great when I get it and to see my dogs happiness while learning and when it comes together for both of us!
